VIDEO: Foster to contest Porsche shootout

Nick Foster’s great form in the Carrera Cup has been rewarded with an invitation to the Porsche Motorsport Junior Program Shootout in Europe.

The October 5-6 event sees drivers aged between 18-26 from Carrera Cup categories in Asia, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan and Scandinavia face engineering and communication skills tests along with practical ability behind the wheel of a 911 GT3 Cup machine.

The 23-year-old Foster is in the running to receive the majority of funding for a 2016 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup campaign.

“I’ve wanted to race in top level sports car racing ever since I watched the Race of a Thousand Years in Adelaide (in 2000),” Foster said.

“I’d seen nothing like it. That event was the reason I became involved in motorsport.”

A notable winner of the junior program in 2014 was Malaysian-based Kiwi Earl Bamber who went on to become Porsche Supercup champion last year and won this year’s Le Mans 24 Hour in the third 919 LMP1 Hybrid.

Foster follows two previous drivers to the shootout after Andre Heimgartner (2012), and Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup racer Sam Power last year.
