Kazuki Nakajima is set to be given medical clearance to return to Toyota’s LMP1 squad in time for Sunday’s official Le Mans 24 Hour test day.

Nakajima has made significant progress since fracturing a vertebra at the previous round of the World Endurance Championship at Spa earlier this month.

The son of ex-F1 racer and Toyota sportscar protege Satoru Nakajima had spent time on his road to recovery with Toyota’s physio in Italy.

Providing he passes the FIA medical assessment, the team will further evaluate his condition following the twin test sessions ahead of Le Mans from June 13-14.

Reserve driver Kamui Kobayashi remains on standby to slot into the #1 Toyota TS40 Hybrid alongside Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Buemi.
