Chaz Mostert scored victory in Race 10

Chaz Mostert made the most of pole position to win the opening 20 lap sprint race at the NP300 Navara Winton Super Sprint.

The 23-year-old jumped to a 1.2s lead by the end of the opening lap, extending the margin to 2.9s by the chequered flag.

Team-mate Mark Winterbottom was the big mover at the start, passing David Reynolds and Michael Caruso to slot into second.

Caruso resisted pressure from Reynolds to secure the final podium spot, albeit 5.2s adrift of Mostert.

“The car was hooked up as it was in qualifying and it hung onto its tyres pretty good,” beamed Mostert post-race.

“In the first race in Perth I finished second to Frosty so it’s good to get one back.”

Todd Kelly, Fabian Coulthard, Rick Kelly, Shane van Gisbergen, Jamie Whincup and Nick Percat completed the top 10 in another sprint race largely devoid of action.

No passes took place within the top 16 after the opening lap shuffle.

The race’s major battle was waged for 22nd position between Ash Walsh, Tim Blanchard, Dale Wood and Scott McLaughlin.

McLaughlin, starting last after a mistake in qualifying, had been attempting to make it to the head of the quartet when he was spun by Wood at the exit of Turn 4.

A second 20 lap encounter will take place from 1635 local time.
