Young Kiwi eyes Australian Formula 4

Kiwi teenager Taylor Cockerton has shown promise in a shakedown test of a Formula 4 at Winton recently
New Zealand’s latest Formula Ford champion Taylor Cockerton is contemplating a spot in the CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship after a recent test outing.
The Winton hit-out represented Cockerton’s first laps in a wings and slicks car and maiden outing outside his home country.
“It’s quite different to Formula Ford with more aero and sticky slicks (tyres),” the 17-year-old said.
“It takes corners so much quicker and the brakes are just awesome.
“The braking distances are very similar to Formula Ford but you are going 50kmh quicker.”
Cockerton is scheduled to return to Winton early next month to test an Australian Formula Ford with Greg Woodrow, the Australian importer of the Mygale chassis, before heading back to New Zealand for a Toyota Racing Series test at Hampton Downs.
The Australian F4 championship will kick off its inaugural season on the undercard at the Castrol Edge Townsville 400 V8 Supercars meeting from July 10-12.
