Holden/Courtney Kart team wins on debut

James Courtney’s new karting outfit – that has drawn support from Holden – has won at the opening round of the Australian Kart Championships with young Melbourne racer, Liam McLellan posting the victory in the KF2 class.

McLellan dominated the weekend setting the pole time and then winning every single race on offer in the KF2 class.

He was followed to the line by Pepsi Max supported Arrow pilot, Scott Sorenson with Championship debutante Bradley Marsh-Stepney third.

Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport V8 Supercar driver, Nick Percat didn’t have things all his own way in the KZ2 Gearbox class. After missing the start and dropping as low as 18th, he recovered to finish eighth.

West Aussie Jake Klarich took his first ever Australian Championship round win in a terrific final. Troy Woolston led the first 17 laps of the race before Klarich made his move at turn one, Woolston running wide. Local Jason Pringle finished second and Chris Hays in third.

Victorian Oscar Piastri took the clean sweep of KF3 winning by over five seconds from Reece Sidebottom and Zane Morse.

Brad Jenner took out the X30 category, whilst Adam Lindstrom was another to complete a cleansweep in the TaG class.

Cooper Murray took an outstanding final in KA Junior, while Emerson Harvey was a surprise winner in the K12 class. In KA1 after a sensational battle in the final, Matt McLean was the victor.

Overall the Championship proved to be a great success with a huge turnout in both competitor numbers and spectators to watch the event.

The next round will take place in Monarto, South Australia over the weekend of May 22-24.
