Top sportscar squad JRM Racing will campaign a Mini in selected rounds of the World Rallycross Championship this year

JRM Racing will enter a Mini Clubman RX in selected rounds of the FIA World Rallycross Championship.

The top sportscar team said it intends to test several drivers through the year in the ever expanding World Rallycross.

JRM Racing took delivery of its Mini RX cars at the start of the year and has spent the intervening months working hard to prepare them for competition.

The Mini RX is derived from the Mini World Rally Car that enjoyed a short-lived spell in the WRC.

“We’ve studied the development and growth of World RX closely since the series was launched in 2014 and we believe it has a very exciting future,” JRM executive director James Rumsey said.

“We want to be winning races in World RX but we recognise that it will take some time to achieve that goal.

“By treating the 2015 season as a development year, we will have a great opportunity to learn about all of the elements that are required to be successful in World RX. In 2016, we intend to run a full season and challenge for world championships.”

JRM’s decision comes as the number of two car teams poised to tackle the 13-round championship has risen from six last year to eight.

The entry list is topped by defending champion Petter Solberg’s SDRX outfit while the 2014 team’s champions Olsbergs MSE AB returns to the fold with its Ford Fiestas.

The opening round is scheduled for Montelegre, Portugal, from April 24-26.
