Stewards have confirmed they have begun an investigation into an alleged assault involving a Dunlop Series driver following the final race at Sydney Olympic Park
Stewards are investigating the alleged assault of two officials by a driver in an ugly aftermath to the final Dunlop Development Series race at Sydney Olympic Park.
Speedcafe.com understands that a driver drove into the rear of a fellow competitor’s car following the 19-lap race on returning to the second-tier category paddock.
The driver then exited his car and allegedly punched an official in the face while another was pushed to the ground in the nasty scuffle.
When approached by Speedcafe.com a medical centre doctor confirmed an official had been treated but would not disclose any other details.
V8 Supercars Investigating Officer Jason Bargwanna told Speedcafe.com that an incident was under investigation.
“There was an altercation between two competitors and there were officials involved,” Bargwanna told Speedcafe.com
“At this stage there is an ongoing investigation.
“There is not much more than we can say at this stage.
“I know there were two people taken to the medical centre but I don’t know the extent of their injuries.”
V8 Supercars were aware of the incident and are also believed to be investigating but refrained from offering an official comment.
