Drinks giant Monster Energy is set to return to the V8 Supercars Championship in prominent fashion next year.

The global drinks brand has been absent for the last two seasons, but is understood to be returning with a leading team to take on arch rival Red Bull.

Monster retreated from V8 Supercars when Red Bull’s title sponsorship deal with Triple Eight quashed its own relationship with the team and star driver Jamie Whincup.

Although unlikely to be confirmed until early next year, Monster’s return is expected to see it take significant branding across two cars, as well as sponsoring at least one driver.

The deal will make V8 Supercars one of Monster’s key marketing platforms in Australia.

Monster’s Australian marketing manager Scott Tabe-Lewis declined to comment on the company’s plans when contacted by Speedcafe.com.

The return of Monster will be a shot in the arm for V8 Supercars, whose teams continue to fight for sponsorship in a difficult market.
