Michelin technicians in France have been evaluating Mount Panorama’s new track surface in a bid to ensure their tyres will perform at the Bathurst 12 Hour.

The French tyre manufacturer has been in contact with Bathurst Regional Council regarding the condition of the 6.213km circuit’s freshly laid surface.

The resurfacing of the circuit has been timed to be completely finished and cured ahead of February’s Bathurst 12 Hour.

In response, the council has collected a sample of the new surface before work began at the track and this has been sent to Michelin’s Technology Centre in France this week for analysis.

The data could well be crucial for technicians and teams at the circuit as they bid to conquer the gruelling endurance race from February 7-9.

Also Michelin are due to deploy a more experienced technical team at the venue for the 2014 edition of the Bathurst 12 Hour.

Eight of the top 10 teams that finished last year’s race, including 2013 winners Erebus Motorsport, ran on Michelin rubber.

Tyre orders have already been placed with shipments on their way to Australia for the race.

A capacity 55-car grid will line up for the Bathurst 12 Hour, which will include 20 GT3 cars and teams from Europe and America.
