David Wall joins Damien Flack for Rennsport Festival

V8 Supercars driver David Wall will side with Damien Flack at the showcase Rennsport round of the Carrera Cup Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend.

Wall, who like many young drivers cut his teeth in Carrera Cup before breaking into the V8 ranks, will be one of several competitors that will travel straight from the history-making Texas round of the V8SC in the US to the former Eastern Creek venue in the space of less than a week.

The 2006 Carrera Cup rookie-of-the-year switched to the Australian GT Championship in 2009 and 2010 when he won back-to-back championships in a Porsche GT3 Cup S.

Wall did not need much persuading to take up the invitation extended by Flack to drive at the unique shared-driver races on the Rennsport program where the two Carrera Cup 60-minute races will comprise round three of the category’s national championship.

“I’ve known Damien a while now after becoming friends with him when I raced against him in the Australian GT Championship and I didn’t hesitate in jumping at the chance to race with him in Carrera Cup,” Wall said.

“It will be not the first time I have raced with Damien either. In 2008 I raced with him and Barton Mawer at the Sepang 12 Hour endurance race (Malaysia) in a Porsche.

“I am really looking forward to jumping back into a Porsche and having some fun but I recognise that it is a championship round so (I) will do my best to help Damien pick up as many points as possible.”

Wall came away from Texas in the third Brad Jones Racing-run Commodore with a mixed bag finishing 10th, DNF, 19th and 12th in the four-race format.

The two-day Rennsport Festival will feature a yet-to-be confirmed line-up of rare competition cars from the Porsche museum as well as Concours and Show and Shine and special track demonstration runs from some iconic cars.

It is the only time this year Porsche will venture outside a shared meeting with V8 Supercars.
