Andretti pair swap cars with Hinchcliffe fastest at Indy
The Canadian James Hinchcliffe topped the speeds on day four of practice for the Indianapolis 500 by falling just short of the 225mph mark.
Hinchcliffe turned the best lap at the Brickyard in 224.210mph (40.1410s) while using his Andretti Autosport team-mate Marco Andretti’s #25 car.
Conversely young Andretti did 22 laps in Hinchcliffe’s #27 GoDaddy-backed car to finish third quickest in 223.570mph with JR Hildebrand second fastest in 223.652mph
“Marco’s pretty upset with the fact I got the fastest lap in his car,” Hinchcliffe joked.
The lap speeds were down on Andretti’s third day best of 225.100mph.
Triple Indy 500 winner and Penske mainstay Helio Castroneves was fourth in 223.556mph ahead of Ryan Hunter-Reay in the #1 DHL Andretti Autosport Chevy with a speed of 223.332mph.
“Finishing near the top yesterday and today shows we hopefully have the consistency that it takes to win the race in the end,” Castroneves said.
The best of the Honda-powered drivers was Josef Newgarden in seventh with a speed of 223.123mph.
Of the 34 cars which ran on day four of practice, Will Power was 14th while Ryan Briscoe, running in a third Chip Ganassi car was 23rd, two spots ahead of Kiwi and Indy 500 team-mate Scott Dixon.
