Reigning V8 Ute series winner Ryal Harris scored his first race victory of the season in the final hit-out of Round 2 at Barbagallo.
Harris started the 14 lap Race 3 from third on the grid but was able to sneak into the lead when David Sieders knocked leader Rhys McNally wide at Turn 1 on the second lap.
Sieders pulled a clean move on McNally for second a lap later, but could do nothing about Harris for the remainder.
“Obviously the goal last year was to get on the podium every round and I want to do the same this year, but unfortunately I had the penalty in Adelaide,” said Harris, who leads the standings after Barbagallo.
“It’s a different mindset this year. I was so relaxed in that race, just looking around at the crowd, I was pushing but so much more relaxed.”
Second was enough to give Sieders the round victory ahead of Harris and McNally, with Tony Longhurst, Garry Baxter and Stephen White completing the weekend top six.
Race 3 was interrupted by a Safety Car called to retrieve Allan Letcher’s Holden after it spun onto the Turn 7 exit kerb following side-to-side contact with Phonsy Mullan.
The V8 Ute Racing Series continues with the V8 Supercars at Hidden Valley on June 14-16.
The local Formula Ford and Saloon Car classes also concluded their weekends on Sunday, with Leanne Tander and Grant Johnson taking the respective Race 3 victories.
