Jorge Lorenzo on pole in Jerez

Jorge Lorenzo has continued his fast-paced form at Jerez by qualifying on pole for Round 3 of the MotoGP World Championship.

In what was a crash heavy session, Honda factory rider Dani Pedrosa qualified second despite falling near the end of the Qualifying 2.

Despite a low side crash in free practice four, Spaniard Marc Marquez regained composure to qualify in third.

Cal Crutchlow had a heavy fall in Q2 losing the front end of his Tech 3 Yamaha and returning to the pits with what appeared to be pain in the right wrist and lower back.

Despite this he re-entered Qualifying with three and a half minutes left on the clock and qualified fourth for tomorrow’s race.

With less than two minutes remaining on the clock both Valentino Rossi and Pedrosa came off their respective bikes with Rossi’s factory Yamaha in need of heavy repairs for tomorrow’s race. Rossi will start from fifth on the grid despite the crash.

After contesting Friday’s two practice sessions, Karel Abraham decided to sit out Saturday’s two free practice sessions and qualifying due to his collarbone injury sustained in Austin.

Q1 offered excitement with Stefan Bradl notching up the fastest lap on his final pass of the session to make the top-two and advance to Q2.

Australian Bryan Staring put in a strong qualifying effort to start from 18th on the grid for tomorrow’s Spanish Grand Prix.
