Lotus is on top after Day 2

Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has continued his strong early form, topping Day 2 in pre-season Formula 1 testing at Jerez.

After finishing third on Day 1, the Frenchman was on top on Day 2, 0.8s faster than Jenson Button’s time yesterday.

While Grosjean impressed, the day is likely to be remembered for Lewis Hamilton’s first outing a Mercedes … and the crash that came with it.

On his 16th lap with his new team, Hamilton suffered rear brake failure and collected the the tyre wall.

Hamilton emerged unscathed, but the car did not complete anymore track running on the day.
