Bigpond ends decade-long V8 Supercars partnership

Bigpond will no longer be a partner of V8 Supercars from next year

Bigpond will conclude its support of V8 Supercars at the end of this season

Bigpond will pull the plug on its sponsorship and online media rights deals with V8 Supercars at the end of the 2012 season, the internet service provider has confirmed.

In addition to its platform sponsorship and online content deals with the series, the BigPond brand and that of its parent Telstra have acted as the naming rights backer of several V8 Supercars events over the last decade, including the BigPond 400 (Barbagallo) and Sydney Telstra 500 (Homebush).

The news of Bigpond’s withdrawal follows a similar mid-year confirmation from sister brand Tradingpost that it will end its association with the sport before next season.

Speaking in a statement, the executive director of Telstra Media, J-B Rousselot, said that it was time to move on.

“Over the past decade, we have seen amazing developments in both the sport and digital media technology and that has enabled us to bring fans closer to the racing,” Rousselot said.

“The time is now right for us to move on.”
