Chris Amon wants rethink on V8 Supercars return to Pukekohe

Chris Amon

Kiwi F1 legend Chris Amon has chimed in to support a tide of discontent about the deal V8 Supercars has struck with the Auckland City Council for the Aussie series to return to Pukekohe next year.

Central to the opposition is the $13million it will cost to have V8 Supercars back for five years with the council stumping up $10.5million and the Government footing the remainder.

Amon, who had 96 grand prix starts from 1963-1976 and raced for many teams including Ferrari, March, Matra, Tyrrell and Ensign, argues that Pukekohe has long slipped past its use-by date and that the investment would have been better directed toward Hampton Downs.
