Holden Racing Team star Garth Tander has received a 25 point penalty for his collision with David Reynolds in Race 22 at Surfers Paradise yesterday.
Reynolds attempted a pass on Tander at Turn 11 at in the dying stages of the shortened, crash marred race. Tander made a late move to block the pass, only to cause a collision that took Reynolds out of the race.
Following an investigation by the V8 stewards and an admission by Tander that he had driven in a careless manner, a penalty of 25 championship points was handed out.
The penalty does not affect championship’s position, with the three-time Bathurst 1000 winner remaining in seventh place outright.
Reynolds was livid at the collision.
“I caught (Garth) Tander and went to pass him but he moved across on me under brakes which is not allowed. He crashed into me, bent my steering and ruined our race,” said Reynolds after the race.
Other penalties imposed in yesterday’s race were four pit lane penalties for blatant disrespect of the Turn 1 kerb. Drivers penalised were the #17 Falcon of Max Papis, the #9 Falcon of Jeroen Bleekemolen, the #49 Falcon of Boris Said and the #91 Commodore of Michael Patrizi.
