Ford Performance Racing’s championship contender Mark Winterbottom has been involved in a minor accident at the Performance Driving Centre in Norwell, Queensland.
Winterbottom was riding shot gun in the Speedcafe.com branded Ford, coaching current World Ironman champion Shannon Eckstein around the Castrol EDGE V8 Superschool when Eckstein left the track, crashing through the nearby sugar canes.
Both Winterbottom and Eckstein emerged unscathed, but the same could not be said for the Speedcafe.com school car, damaging the front bar.
“I was pretty comfortable for a few laps but once you start pushing the limits these things can happen,” said Eckstein.
“Unfortunately I pushed things a bit too hard and came a cropper but everything is so safe and controlled in racing that we’re back here now all fine.”
V8 Superschool owner Paul Morris has invited Eckstein back to his facility for a full day’s defensive driving course. Eckstein has accepted the invitation.
The PR stunt was held today in the build up to the Armor All Gold Coast 600 which kicks off this Friday on the famous Surfers Paradise street track.
