Jack Daniel's Racing's Todd and Rick Kelly will farewell their career-long association with Holden by driving one of the manufacturer's original cars up to Mount Panorama this week.
As part of the Kelly Racing's pre-Bathurst tradition, the brothers and their co-drivers will take the long way to get to famous circuit, and this year, they are driving a two-tone grey and white 1960 FB Holden.
In fact the car is owned by their mother, Margaret!
The drivers have also got into 50 year Bathurst celebrations as well, by dressing up in period clothing.
To prepare for the Bathurst road trip, the FB graced the workshops of Kelly Racing for its Bathurst preparation, which included a service, a check of the tyre pressures – including the spare, a quick wash and it was ready to go.
The Kelly family FB Holden was purchased a few years ago by the boy's father, John, as a gift to Margaret.
Todd Kelly says that he and his brother will use it as an opportunity to thank Holden for their career-long support.
“We wanted to thank Holden for their long-standing support of both Rick and I,” said Kelly.
“It will be great to crank up Mum's old FB as we make out last trip to race a Commodore at Bathurst.”
The Holden FB was Australia's biggest selling car in 1960 and almost 175,000 were sold between 1960 and 1961. It cost $2214.
The Kellys will compete at this weekend's Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 in a slightly-revised livery, replacing the white stripes on their Jack Daniel's Commodores with gold stripes. CLICK HERE for Speedcafe.com's past story.
