Garry Jacobson has struck first in the first of three Australian Formula Ford races at Sandown Raceway today.
The opening stages were closely fought out with a battle pack consisting of pole sitter Jack Le Brocq, Jacobson, Shae Davies, Matthew Hart and 16-year-old Anton De Pasquale.
Starting from sixth Matthew Hart charged up to 2nd place after a hard fight with Jack Le Brocq, the pair swapped places continually as the race wound down to a close.
By the time Hart had taken second Place, Jacobson had pulled clear to build a lead and hold on to record his third career victory since Symmons Plains in April.
“It’s really good to get back into our winning form,” Jacobson said.
“This result is a tribute to the whole Sonic team for turning our form around.
“All weekend the car has been very quick, it’s been in the setup window since we rolled it off the truck.
“We’re on a mission from here on in!”
Despite not winning the race, Hart was pleased with his efforts.
“It was a good close race,” Hart said.
“It’s important to finish ahead of Jack, it’s only two points, but at this time of the year they all count.
“In the race when I was battling with Garry and Jack, I could see exactly where their strengths and weaknesses are.
The field was down a car for Race 1 after William Hall crashed his Spectrum during qualifying.
Australian Formula Ford will be back in track tomorrow two races, which are scheduled for 945 and 1205.
