Jim Beam Racing returned to a more ‘traditional’ white livery at Queensland Raceway

Steven Johnson’s #17 Falcon will carry a unique livery at October’s Armor All Gold Coast 600 as part of a promotion from major backer Jim Beam.

The car, which Johnson is set to share with Italian Max Papis under the international co-driver format, will feature images of 25,000 fans who participate in the bourbon brand’s ‘Wanna B Famous’ competition.

The major prize winner will also see their name on the rear windows of the car in place of Johnson’s, in addition to receiving ‘VIP treatment’ at the event.

The social media-driven promotion is the brainchild of Sydney sponsorship agency Total Sport Entertainment.

The Gold Coast livery will be the fourth different scheme of the season for Jim Beam Racing, with the team having started the year promoting its Honey and Devil’s Cut products, before returning to a more traditional look last time out at Queensland Raceway.

Team owner Dick Johnson says he’s pleased with the idea of adding the fan images to the team’s current look.

“Jim Beam Racing has had some great liveries and this is really going to take our current design to a whole new level,” he said.

“It’s fantastic that this time we’re getting the fans involved – as they’re the real reason we head out to the track and race every year.”

DJR’s two Jim Beam-backed drivers Steven Johnson and Dean Fiore sit 15th and 21st respectively in the 2012 V8 Supercars Championship points standings.
