John Bowe and Jim Richards have ended the opening Touring Car Masters practice sessions at Queensland Raceway at the top of the times.
Bowe, driving his Ford Mustang, set the early pace in the first practice session, with AMC Javelin driver Richards topping the times in Practice 2.
Bowe’s opening time of 1m17.8984s was fast enough to be the best for the day after clutch problems restricted him in Practice 2.
Behind the two former Bathurst 1000 winners was Tony Edwards in his blue Holden Torana SL/R 5000, just a 0.1s shy of Richards.
His fastest time, however, was set by V8 Supercars team owner Paul Morris. The Queensland sampled Edwards’ car in the second practice session, beating Edwards’ time by 0.2s.
Andrew Miedecke (Chevrolet Camaro), Keith Kassule (Ford Falcon XB), Eddie Abelnica (Ford Falcon XB), Michael Wedge (Holden HQ Monaro), Les Walmsley (Holden HQ Monaro), Bill Pye (Chevrolet Camaro) and Brett Youlden (Holden HQ Monaro) rounded out the top 10.
Albelnica set his time in Practice 1, but will require an engine change overnight.
The Touring Car Masters will hold its qualifying at 0850 before Race 1 at 1150.
