Taz Douglas will debut a brand-new helmet and personal sponsor at this weekend’s Coates Hire 300 at Queensland Raceway.
The Team iSelect driver has secured personal backing from entertainment company V8 Nights, who have given Douglas’ new Stilo helmet a fresh blue look.
It is Douglas’ first new helmet in over five years, and he says it has come not a moment too soon.
“I had my old helmet for about five years, and to be honest, it smells really bad,” Douglas told Speedcafe.com.
“At Phillip Island I was putting my helmet on, and before I did it, I took a deep breath because of the smell.
“Dave (Viola) from V8 Nights saw me do this, so we talked about it and he said he’d get me a new helmet if it could be painted in V8 Nights colours. So here it is! I think it looks pretty good.
“I’ve gone with the Stilo. Lowndesy wears one, so if it’s good enough for him, it should be OK for me!
“I’ve heard that the air system is quite good on them, and they’re not a bad looking helmet. I used it at last week’s ride day for the first time and it was really good. I had no trouble with it at all.”
Victorian Douglas currently sits 23rd in the V8 Supercars Championship in his first full-time season in the ‘Main Game.’ His best result this season came in Race 3 at Symmons Plains in Tasmania where he finished 12th.
The Coates Hire 300 at Queensland Raceway kicks off this Friday.
