Kane Rose has cemented his reputation as the man to catch in the Porsche Staff Solutions GT3 Cup Challenge by securing victory in Round 4 at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Rose repeated his Saturday performance to lead home Jeff Bobik by 3.1s in Race 2, before Bobik turned the tables by taking a narrow 0.2s win in the final. The start had proven crucial in both races.
The weekend’s results see Rose extend his series lead to 65 points over Bobik, who has now overhauled previous second-placed man John Modystach in the standings.
“It’s a fantastic result for us,” said Rose.
“We put a lot into this weekend and to come away with two wins and a second place is fantastic for us and for the championship.
“There’s a couple of rounds to go in the season but we’re definitely more comfortable with the car so hopefully we can go to another new track in Queensland Raceway and have a similar result.
“My main competition for the remaining rounds is definitely Jeff Bobik. Come the end of the weekend he always seems to be at your heels.”
Fourth, third and fifth place finishes across the three races were good enough to see John Goodacre beat Brent Odgers to the final spot on the round podium.
The drive of the day however was recorded by Philip Woodbury, who came from the rear of grid to finish fourth in Race 2.
Woodbury had picked up his final two places on the last lap as Fraser Ross and Modystach dropped to eighth and ninth respectively after making contact while battling for fourth.
Woodbury improved a further spot to take third in the final ahead of Trende, Goodacre and Odgers.
The next round of the GT3 Cup Challenge will be held with the Shannons Nationals presented by Hi-Tec Oils at Queensland Raceway on August 10-12.
