Porsche's Michael Dreiser awards Jonny Reid the TAG Pole trophy

Jonny Reid in the Hunter Sports Group 911 has scored the TAG Heuer pole for the second round of the Porsche City Index Carrera Cup at Albert Park.

Reid who was called into drive the car normally piloted by Newcastle mining magnate Nathan Tinkler, leapt up the leaderboard on his second set of tyres to grab the top spot from Craig Baird (Jet Travel Insurance), Steven Richards (Laser Plumbing & Electrical) and series leader Alex Davison (Roma Caravans).

“This is great for the boys at Hunter Motorsports and Nathan Tinkler who have given me a great opportunity this weekend and scoring pole is the perfect way to start that relationship,” said Reid.

“The first set of tyres I wasn’t happy. Made some small changes and the car responded and really was a pleasure to drive to set that time.

“It wasn’t by all means a perfect lap, but there’s some areas I can improve – plus a couple of little improvements to the car for the race.

“Missing Adelaide makes it tough for the championship. But I will focus on this weekend and ideally a good result will provide further opportunities for the year.”

V8 legend Mark Skaife set the seventh fastest time in the L’Oreal Men Expert Porsche with former F1 ace Heinz-Harald Frentzen one spot further back.

The first Porsche City Index Carrera Cup race will be a twilight event on Friday evening from 6.20pm
