Former World of Outlaws Champion, Donny Schatz has shown his true class in taking out the Australian Open at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway, which doubled as the latest round of the 2011/2012 World Series Sprintcars Championship.
The North Dakota native dominated the 50 lap, $20,000 to win affair. It was a war of attrition, with warm conditions lending to a slick track and tyre conservation the order of the night.
Following Schatz home was Robbie Farr – in a welcome return to form aboard the Orrcon Steel Eastcoast Pipelines machine and Series leader, James McFadden.
McFadden’s run of luck continued – after starting on pole alongside Schatz, he spun late in the feature race and was lucky not to be collected – however was fortunate to keep the engine running and power out of the spin. At that moment, Brooke Tatnell’s right rear tyre detonated, forcing the yellow lights to come on and handing McFadden a get out of gaol free card.
The Series continues next weekend in Adelaide.
