Formula 3 will hold a driver test and evaluation day at Mallala Motorsport Park later this month.
Potential drivers in the wings and slicks category who see Formula 3 as their next step in Australian motorsport are being encouraged to experience the F3 cars at the category’s inaugural Kumho Tyres Experience Formula 3 day.
The test will be held on December 19 at the South Australian venue.
The ‘come and try’ day will allow drivers to experience up to 25 laps in a professionally-run team for just $1500 (+GST), with a $500 cash-back, returned at the completion of a successful day’s testing.
Kumho Tyres will provide six sets of new tyres in support of the initiative, ensuring drivers get to experience the cars on new rubber and at their best potential.
Each car will have data analysis and on-board video provided to assist drivers in the process adapting to the Formula 3 cars.
A similar ‘Come and try’ day held in 2009 resulted in young stars Steel Guiliana, Josh Burdon and Ben Gersekowski all securing their positions on the Formula 3 grid. This year, Guiliana won the Forpark Australia Scholarship. All three drivers are working on outright championship campaigns for 2012.
“Getting that first opportunity to test a Formula 3 car was key to us deciding to race in the category,” Josh Burdon said.
“The opportunity gave me the confidence that I could do the job in Formula 3, and that it was the right choice for my career. It’s been fantastic to be part of the championship and we are now in the process of putting together a full championship campaign next year to try and win the Gold Star.
“I would hugely encourage other drivers in a similar position to take the opportunity to test an F3 car when they can, they won’t look back.”
Interested parties have until Wednesday, December 14th to secure their position.
