Nick Foster has taken the first race win in the final round of the 2011 Australian Formula Ford Championship at Symmons Plains today.
After earlier taking pole position, the Steeline Mygale driver was unstoppable in the first of three races for the weekend, controlling the 15 lap event from the start to lead home team-mate Cameron Waters and CAMS Rising Star Jack Le Brocq.
Foster, competing in his last ever Formula Ford event before moving on to a new racing category next year, is yet to win a round this season and wants to end this era of his career with a round win.
“The car is just amazing this weekend, it's so easy to drive and does exactly what I want it too so that makes my job much easier,” Foster said.
“We had such good speed throughout the whole race, so myself and Cam were really just able to cruise away at the front.” Waters, who wrapped up the championship in the last round at Surfers Paradise, was content to follow his team-mate home.
“I'm happy to finish second behind Nick, he's still fighting for second in the championship so I didn't want to try anything that would put the result at risk,” Waters said.
Le Brocq finished third ahead of Daniel Erickson (the first Spectrum home), Trent Harrison, Mathew Hart, Liam Sager, Tom Williamson, Callum Mitchell and Jonathan Venter. The final round of the series continues tomorrow with Races 2 and 3 at Symmons Plains.
