Australian James Davison will test for the Andretti Autosport IndyCar team at Palm Beach International Raceway this Thursday.

Davison will test alongside current Indy Lights driver Gustavo Yacaman at the Jupiter, Florida circuit.

Andretti Autosport is testing drivers as it needs to fill the vacancy in its GoDaddy.com entry that the late Dan Wheldon was due to compete in next year.

The GoDaddy-supported car was driven this year by Danica Patrick, who has left IndyCar and stepping up her NASCAR commitments. CLICK HERE for Speedcafe.com’s story on Patrick’s NASCAR future.

Davison says that he is looking forward to his IndyCar test.

“Exciting day today,” Davison tweeted.

“Have worked hard for this …”

After finishing second in the 2009 Indy Lights Series, Davison has been resigned to the sidelines over the past two years.

Last year, he competed in selected Grand Am Series races.
