Andrew Thompson: Wet weather no problem
Andrew Thompson says that he is not phased by the possibility of racing in wet conditions tomorrow at Phillip Island.
The Queenslander, who is partnering Jamie Whincup in this year’s V8 Supercars endurance races has previously lacked confidence in wet conditions – – notably struggling in the weather-affected second race in the last round of the Fujitsu Series at Queensland Raceway.
Local forecasts for Phillip Island are predicting up to a 50 percent chance of rain for tomorrow.
After a special wet practice day at the Holden Performance Driving Centre in Queensland, plus a semi-wet test at Queensland Raceway last week, Thompson says that he has shaken off any lingering issues.
“Obviously, I had a shit run at Queensland Raceway and I had some work to do,” Thompson said today after practice.
“I was pretty busy between QR and here to fine tune a few things with my style and what I do in the wet.
“I made some good improvements. We went to QR for the test day, it was wet to start with, and we were out the gate and there was no one quicker than me in the car.
“It was a bit of work to do, but I’m happy. Wet or dry, it’s not a problem.”
Thompson and regular team driver Whincup finished the final practice session of the day second fastest to the sister TeamVodafone entry of Craig Lowndes/Mark Skaife.

Whincup conceded that there is some work to do on the #88 Commodore before tomorrow.
“We’ve got a bit to improve out car,” Whincup said.
“We’ve got to make it a bit more consistent. A lot can happen between now and Sunday.
“We had our ups and downs. Friday practice is about moving forward, but we had couple of set backs. We’ve got a lot of work to do tonight to make sure that we’re strong tomorrow.”
The V8 Supercars will conduct a huge day of track activity tomorrow, with two practice sessions, two qualifying sessions and two races at the Island circuit.[nggallery id=60]
