IRWIN Endurance Countdown: DJR

The Dick Johnson Racing team

The Dick Johnson Racing team

The fourth episode of the IRWIN Tools Endurance Countdown looks at Dick Johnson Racing – arguably Australia’s most famous race team.

Speedcafe.com’s Grant Rowley is joined by Supercheap Auto Racing endurance driver Jack Perkins, alongside V8 Supercars Championship commentator Chris Jewell to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each team leading into the L&H 500 Phillip Island and Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

After a difficult off-season, DJR heads to Phillip Island and Bathurst with a breathe of confidence in their sails.

Lead driver Steve Johnson, who will be partnered by enduro specialist David Besnard, currently sits fifth in the title standings. Both Johnson and Besnard are yet to win a Bathurst 1000, and in 2011, this combination looks like one of the favourite.

In the #18 entry is James Moffat and Kiwi Matt Halliday. In the last round of the championship at Queensland Raceway, Moffat took his career-best result of fourth – and the son of Bathurst great Allan would love nothing more to improve on that again in the next two events.

While the team may not be able to remain the reigning champion team, is there a chance that they could break a 17-year drought and score a Bathurst 1000 win?
