With the Gold Coast’s NRL and AFL teams slated to finish their season’s this weekend, the Titans and Suns joined with SBR pair – Shane van Gisbergen and Alex Davison in Surfers Paradise to celebrate 50 days to go until the Armor All Gold Coast 600, October 21-23.
Following on from the AFL and NRL season closers this Saturday at Metricon Stadium and Skilled Park respectively, the codes showed rare unity in agreeing the Armor All Gold Coast 600 is a great event for Surfers Paradise.
“I’ve been a few times in the past with a few of the boys from the Titans and love the V8 Supercars, it’s always a fantastic weekend,” said injured Titans captain, Scott Prince – who was joined by Hooker, Matt Srama.
“I had a hot lap last year and the amount of work and effort that these guys do for up to 200 kilometres at a time in some extreme heat conditions is quite surprising.”

Gold Coast Suns 19-year-old, Piers Flanagan – being from Geelong – is a Ford fan, so was happy to meet with two of the marque’s brightest young stars today along with giant young team-mate Tom Nicholls.

The 50 day countdown to the Armor All Gold Coast 600 featured a rare show of unity from the sporting codes
“Last year was great – it was loud, colourful and enjoyable event,” he said. “It’s fantastic the Gold Coast can attract so many great events such as the Gold Coast 600.
“Many of the Suns are young guys living away from home, so events such as this are really good for us to get together and build team morale.”
Van Gisbergen – who was involved in last year’s epic Sunday race with Jamie Whincup – will partner fellow Kiwi, Scott Dixon – a driver, he says was his childhood hero.
“He’s a guy I’ve always looked up to and with his Indy 500 and IndyCar Championship wins, certainly someone that I admire,” van Gisbergen said.
“To not only partner him here, but to be racing against many guys that watched over the years is pretty cool.”
Davison – who will partner with former Porsche factory team-mate – Marc Lieb in the IRWIN Tools SBR Falcon concurred.
“To have such a stellar international field in our cars racing for Championship points is a world first,” he said. “I know Mark pretty well, he’s a great guy. Putting him in a right hand drive V8 Supercar will be a different experience, but I’m sure he’ll do a great job.”
The Armor All Gold Coast 600 takes over the streets of Surfers Paradise between October 21-23. Tickets are available now from www.ticketek.com or by calling 132 849.
