It has been one hell of a ride for Marcos Ambrose since he announced at the 2005 Melbourne Grand Prix that he would be leaving V8 Supercars at the end of the season to try his luck in NASCAR.
For many Australians, the move seemed bizarre, but for those that knew what the USA and NASCAR had to offer, it seemed to be a roll of the dice worth taking.
It has been a tough hard road, but finally Ambrose got the job done in NASCAR’s top tier – Sprint Cup.
It came in his first season with Richard Petty Motorsports after five years with JTG Motorsports and on a road course where he had won the three previous Nationwide races, but had never made it to victory lane in the major league.
As part of a tribute to Ambrose’s success we have decided to put together an image gallery of the past six years.
Many of these images are from our personal collections and have never been seen before – and maybe never will again!
They range from his first season in NASCAR Craftsman Trucks, his run through the Nationwide Series and then his step up to the main game. There are also many behind the scenes images including a family snap from their first month in the US, a private Rolex Grand-AM test with Carl Edwards and some production snaps from his 60 Minutes visit in 2008.
Every image has a story to tell, we hope you enjoy them.
