Pepsi Max Crew’s Greg Murphy says that he wants to remain in the sport for another two seasons to ensure a place in V8’s inaugural journey to United States.

Last week, V8 Supercars announced a landmark agreement to take Australia’s biggest motorsport category to America in 2013 to race on the yet-to-be-constructed Austin, Texas circuit.

The deal will see the V8s head to the Circuit of the Americas for five years.

At the moment, Murphy is in V8 limbo with no signed deal to compete in the series next year.

Recently, Murphy and his team Kelly Racing told that they were closing on a deal for the popular Kiwi to retain his ride. CLICK HERE for more.

Murphy, who celebrates his 400th V8 Supercars race start this weekend at the Sucrogen Townsville 400, says that he wants to be in the series in two years time to ensure a drive at the Texas circuit.

“I desperately want to be around for that, at least, that would be fantastic,” Murphy told

“V8 Supercars in America will go hand-in-hand. Big V8 sedans, they already have their category over there (NASCAR), and this would compliment that.

“I think the fans in America would love to us our cars race in their country. I’ve just got to be part of that.”
