Walkinshaw Racing take road trip option

Melbourne-based V8 Supercars teams have taken a number of travel precautions due to the volcanic ash that is hovering over the east coast of Australia ahead of this weekend’s Darwin event.
Walkinshaw Racing has put 24 of its staff members on a bus this evening, bound for Sydney to make their connecting flight tomorrow.
Team drivers Garth Tander and Fabian Coulthard jetted out from Melbourne today to ensure they didn’t get trapped.
Kelly Racing and Ford Performance Racing have decided to maintain its current flights, leaving Melbourne tomorrow morning, while Brad Jones Racing is flying from Albury which presents the team no problem.

Holden Motorsport media manager Gerald McDorman told Speedcafe.com that the Walkinshaw Racing outfit will use the road trip to avoid any potential flight drama – doubling as a timely team bonding exercise.
“Three AFL teams were caught unawares and luckily it was after their games,” he said.
“We didn’t want to get caught out, so we’ve done the best we could. It has kind of turned into an adventure for the boys, and a good team bonding experiencing.”
The Skycity Triple Crown at Hidden Valley Raceway kicks off this Friday.
