Jeff Gordon wins at Pocono

Jeff Gordon in Pocono's victory lane

The Chevrolet driver beat home pole sitter Kurt Busch (Dodge) with Kyle Bush (Toyota) in third.

The key moment came on lap 156 of 200 when Gordon beat Kurt Busch out of the pits under caution. The four-time champion moved away from the re-start to take his 84th win of his career, tying him with Darrell Waltrip and Bobby Allison for third on the career victory list.

“You guys won that one in the pits — way to go,” said Gordon on the team radio as he took the chequered flag.

Jimmie Johnson finished fourth followed by Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Championship leader Carl Edwards suffered an engine failure 58 laps into the race to finish 37th.

Not a great day for Australia Marcos Ambrose who finished 36-laps behind Gordon in 34th place.

“I had a vibration in third gear for about 25 laps and we tried to save it but we lost third gear and then trying to leave the pits in fourth gear we lost the clutch too,” said Ambrose.

“It is just a bad day.”

Ambrose has slipped two places in the standings to be 21st.
