Ben Barker has charged to pole position for this afternoon’s Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Race 1 in his second-ever appearance in the category.

The Briton drove his Team BRM Porsche to the top position to finish 0.3s quicker than former V8 racer Steven Richards, Craig Baird, Jonny Reid, Daniel Gaunt, Michael Patrizi and Elite Class leader Max Twigg in seventh.

“We knew it was going to be close when we went out there. We just went out and pulled out a fast, balls-out lap and took pole,” Barker told Speedcafe.com.

“I think a fair few guys had the potential to get pole, to be honest. I had it in the back of my mind we could do it so to actually get pole is great.”

Race 1 of Porsche Carrera Cup Australia will be held this afternoon at 3:20pm (WST)
