Steven Richards has set the benchmark time in practice ahead of Round 2 of the Porsche Carrera Cup at Barbagallo Raceway today.
Richards finished with the fastest time of the day in this morning’s first practice session, ahead of Craig Baird, Daniel Gaunt, Michael Patrizi, Ben Barker and Jonny Reid, who all set their fastest times in the afternoon practice session.
“Everything feels good so we’re pretty happy at the moment,” said Richards.
“My experience in V8 Supercars here has definitely helped out with my pace this weekend. I don’t know why but I’ve always gone well here and I’m very comfortable driving at the track.”
Richards will now look for Carrera Cup victory at a track where he has previously claimed race wins in both Formula Ford and V8 Supercars.
“I won the 1994 Australian Formula Ford Championship here, along with V8 Supercar poles and race wins.
“It would be nice to also win here in Carrera Cup, but that will depend on how I go for the rest of the weekend and how strong the competition is. I think the times today were a good indicator on how strong qualifying is going to be.”
Meanwhile, leading Elite Class driver James Koundouris challenged the leading professional class drivers with the seventh fastest outright time in the afternoon practice session.
Porsche Carrera Cup Australia will hold qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday, with Race 2 and Race 3 held on Sunday.
