Marcos Ambrose was left to rue being taken out in a multi-car incident at Talladega’s Aaron’s 499, as his early drafting partner Carl Edwards sped to a top 10 finish.

Ambrose teamed with Edwards early in the race, and was pushed to the lead by the Roush Fenway driver on Lap 38.

The Australian’s day was effectively over on Lap 90 however, when a slowing David Ragan (Roush Ford) caused Brad Keselowski (Penske Dodge) to turn his team-mate and drafting partner Kurt Busch in-front of the pack.

Ambrose was collected in the melee, along with Kasey Kahne (Red Bull Toyota) and Trevor Bayne (Wood Brothers Ford)

The #9 Fusion dropped 30 laps as Ambrose’s team repaired the damage, before recording a 32nd place finish.

“We were minding our own business on the high line, and got taken out,” explained Ambrose after the race.

“The car was great all day, we didn’t quite have the pace in qualifying, but in the race there were no issues.

“Working with Carl (Edwards) was nice, he wound up at the front of the field by the finish, it’s just a shame we weren’t there with him.

“The crew never gave up today, they did a top job turning the car around… it’s just another one of those tough Superspeedway deals.”
