Thompson not concerned with car swap

Fujitsu V8 Series driver Andrew Thompson is not concerned that his race car will be in the hands of another driver at this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix V8 support race.

Thompson and the Triple Eight Race Engineering crew will loan the car to Paul Morris Motorsport for Steve Owen to use in VIP Petfoods colours at the Albert Park track.

Owen crashed his regular car at the notorious Turn 8 in Saturday’s leg of the Clipsal 500 on the weekend. The team quickly deemed the car unavailable for the race meeting.

Thompson said that he has no hassles with the pre-arranged agreement between his Triple Eight boss Roland Dane and Paul Morris.

“I’m not too fussed by it,” he told Speedcafe.com.au.

“The team has made the decision and I don’t have a drama with it. They put faith in choosing me for this year, so I put the faith in them to loan the car.

“Steve will do a good job. He got a bit unlucky on the weekend. I did the same thing last year. It’s an easy thing to do – turn eight is a bloody tough corner.”

While Thompson won’t be in the car, he will compete at the Grand Prix in the Ultimate Speed Comparison in a TeamVodafone Commodore. CLICK HERE for Speedcafe’s story from earlier today.

Thompson currently sits fifth in the Fujitsu V8 Series standings. He won Race 1 but was involved in an accident with Walkinshaw Racing’s Nick Percat in Race 2.

The next round of the Fujitsu V8 Series will be held at Barbagallo Raceway, WA, on April 29-May 1.
