Daniel Gaunt confirms Carrera Cup plans

Daniel Gaunt will compete in the Australian Carrera Cup Championship
New Zealand pair Daniel Gaunt and Ant Pedersen will compete in this year’s Australian Carrera Cup Championship.
Former V8 Supercars drivers will drive in the reborn championship with Triple X Motorsport – the team that took Gaunt to this year’s New Zealand Porsche GT3 title.
While Gaunt will line-up at the opening round of the championship at Albert Park this weekend, his team-mate Pedersen is expected to miss the first hit-out due to a lack of available cars.
It is expected that he will make his series debut in Round 2 at Barbagallo Raceway.
A full field of 23 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup Cars will be at Albert Park, with an entry list set to be released later today.
Gaunt, who drove for Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport in the opening half of the 2010 V8 Supercars Championship, says that he is expecting a fierce battle.
“I’m looking forward to driving a brand new car,” he said of the Porsche MY11 911 GT3 Cup type 997 that he’ll be racing.
“There are 23 cars so the competition will be fierce, although in my eyes the benchmark will still be Craig Baird. Plus the likes of Steven Richards and Mark Skaife are sure to be part of the front group for the first round.
“I’m looking forward at getting amongst it and flying the flag for Triple X and New Zealand.”
Gaunt’s entry will be backed by VnC Cocktails, the Mad Butcher and MPD Dairy Products.
Gaunt will also compete in this year’s V8 Supercars endurance races alongside Tim Slade in the #47 Lucky 7 Racing Falcon FG.
