Steve Richards has taken the wraps of his brand-new Porsche 997 GT3 Carrera Cup entry, featuring major support from Laser Plumbing and Electrical.
Richards will enter the car under ‘Laser Racing’ and will prepare the Porsche from his own Victorian-based workshop.
The two-time Bathurst champ says that he wants to be competitive in his first season of Carrera Cup competition.
“It’s a new challenge, and something pretty exciting,” he told Speedcafe.com.au.
“We want to be competitive. There’s going to be some really good quality drivers in the field, and none of us want to be running around in the middle of the pack.”
The Australian Carrera Cup Championship kicks off as one of the lead support categories at the Formula One Qantas Australian Grand Prix next weekend.
A full field of 23 cars are expected, including the likes of Craig Baird, Michael Patrizi, Ben Barker, Daniel Gaunt and star driver Mark Skaife.
Besides his debut in the reborn Carrera Cup title, Richards was recently confirmed as Mark Winterbottom’s team-mate in the Orrcon Steel Ford Performance Racing Falcon – the team that Richards drove for in the V8 Supercars Championship for the past four years.
