Will Davison confirmed with factory Ford team
Will Davison has been officially confirmed at Ford Performance Racing for the 2011 International V8 Supercars Championship.
Davison will drive the #6 Trading Post Racing Ford Falcon FG, replacing Steven Richards in the team.
After months of speculation, Davison was officially announced as FPR’s new driver at the Tamworth Music Festival today.
The Victorian joins Mark Winterbottom (Orrcon Steel) and Paul Dumbrell (The Bottle-O) in the three-car effort. Davison will be engineered at the track by Grant McPherson.
Davison’s employment at the factory Ford squad is his fourth V8 team that he has driven for. Davison started his V8 Supercar career with Team Dynamik, competing in just one race for the team.
He then moved to Dick Johnson Racing from 2006 to 2008, before linking with the Toll Holden Racing in 2009.
After a stellar opening year with the team – finishing second in the title and winning the Bathurst 1000 with Garth Tander – Davison endured a shocker in 2010, finishing in 21st place in the V8 Championship.
This year, Davison is confident that he can turn around the disappointment of 2010.
“I can’t wait to get into it,” he told Speedcafe.com.au.
“I don’t think I have ever been as excited before the start of a new V8 season.
“The team has been very good to me and very accommodating. They have assembled a terrific bunch of guys and clearly, the speed of the cars is very impressive.”
Davison’s first drive of his Trading Post FPR Ford Falcon will be at the official season-opening V8 Supercars test day at Eastern Creek next Saturday.
