Lee Holdsworth has taken provisional pole position for Race 19 of the V8 Supercars Championship Series at the Armor All Gold Coast 600 today.

Holdsworth, who will partner with Greg Ritter in the #33 Fujitsu Racing Commodore VE, set two late fast times – the first placing him third behind Garth Tander and Mark Winterbottom, but his last hot lap was good enough to edge out Toll HRT’s Tander by 0.0062s.

“It just hooked up, the tyres came to pressure and everything was running smoothly from the second and third sector,” Holdsworth said.

“The first sector wasn’t so good, so at least we know there’s still something in it.”

Orrcon Steel FPR’s Winterbottom took third place from his team-mate Steve Richards, making the Richards/Will Power combination the highest-placed international driver entrant.

Other drivers who will compete in the top 10 shootout are Michael Caruso, James Courtney, Paul Dumbrell, Jamie Whincup, Craig Lowndes and Will Davison.

Nathan Pretty had his second big accident of the weekend, crashing at turn one in the early stages of the session. The car will be repaired for this afternoon’s race.

The only other issues during the session was when tyre bundles went stray on the track.

The top 10 shootout will start at 10.50am.
