Production car driver Lee Castle has joined the growing ranks of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge presented by Mission Foods ranks by purchasing the 996 model car previously campaigned by Terry Knight.

The Gold Coaster recently took delivery of the car, and gave the German racer a shakedown test at Queensland’s Morgan Park Raceway.

“Wow, what an awesome package!” Castle said.

“The first day out in the new car went to plan, even though we were on the short circuit with old tyres it was very encouraging, the lap times were there straight away.

“Probably the hardest thing was getting used to having the gear change on the right-hand-side, but that wasn’t a biggy.

“I’m really looking forward to Sandown, I think we should be competitive, I’ve won there before in the Subaru.

“Next season will be big – owning and running our own car for the first time will be a pretty exciting challenge.

The car’s former owner Terry Knight meanwhile moved across to Tony Quinn’s ex-996 model for the Eastern Creek round, and promptly took his first-ever career victory.

Knight’s Action Motorsport team-mate Matt Kingsley still leads the series heading into the final round, although Roger Lago slashed his 50 point series lead down to 22 at Eastern Creek, with a total of 90 points available from the final three races of the season at Sandown in November.
