Season best ninth for Ambrose in Richmond

Marcos Ambrose leads Michael Waltrip Racing stable-mate Martin Truex Jr
Marcos Ambrose has scored his best finish for the season with a strong drive up to ninth place in the Heath Calhoun 400 at Richmond International Raceway today.
Ambrose started from 20th position in the 400 lap race, charging through the pack and resisting the advances of four-time Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson in the closing laps.
“I’m really happy for the team, it’s great to come away from Richmond finally with a top-ten in the bag, I think we are turning the corner now,” said Ambrose.
“It’s great to get that weight off our shoulders, the next aim is obviously to shoot for the top five, and I think we had the car tonight to get that job done.
“The effort the team has put in has been awesome; we struck on a really good balance today, and it gives us a lot of confidence going forward.”
Ambrose and his JTG Daugherty Racing crew used a combination of strong car speed and sound pit strategy to come home strong and take the #47 team’s first top 10 finish for the season.
The Aussie now sits 28th in the series points standings after nine races held, with next week’s Sprint Cup race at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina.
