Emotional maiden Formula Ford win for Foster

Nick Foster on his way to victory aboard the Steeline Mygale at Queensland Raceway
Brisbane teenager Nick Foster has claimed the first Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship race and round wins of his career at Queensland Raceway today.
After a disappointing opening race yesterday, where he finished ninth following an early spin, Foster produced an amazing comeback to take the win in both race two and three aboard his Steeline Mygale prepared by Sonic Motor Racing Services.
As a result of his round victory Foster also took the championship lead, as his fellow title contenders experienced dramas throughout the weekend.
“It has been a very emotional week for me (Foster’s Grandfather passed away last week), so to come out and win take out my first round in the championship is unreal,” said Foster.
“After the disappointment of yesterday’s opening race when I finished ninth, it was a great comeback today to finish up on top.
“I knew I had the pace after practice in the Steeline Mygale but it was just about driving smart and taking advantage of this speed.
“In the final race the car was very strong in the early laps, which allowed me to get a bit of a gap. But during the middle part of the race I lost some pace after running wide on the marbles, which allowed (Ben) Jurczak to close up a bit.
“Over the closing stages I was able to regather the speed and pull a bit of a gap.
“It is a huge ‘monkey of my back’ to win my first round and it was made even better with the fact that I was able to enjoy it with my family, including Nan who I believe was very nervous watching on.”
Series debutant Ben Jurczak finished a standout second for the round after just four Formula Ford races. Adam Graham secured third place for the round with a runner-up finish in the final 14-lap encounter.
Geoff Uhrhane finished fourth for the round, following a retirement in Race three, ahead of a recovering Chaz Mostert, who was involved in an incident in Race two.
