Steve Owen has won the opening race of the 2010 Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series at the Adelaide Parklands street circuit this evening.

Owen led every lap of the race, only running in second place in the first part of the first lap after a tight tussle with James Moffat at the first chicane. A small mistake from Moffat allowed Owen and John McIntyre through, but Moffat re-passed McIntyre later in the race to seal second place.

Owen, who is only locked in to compete in this weekend’s round, said it was the perfect start to the year.

“The car has just got better and better over the weekend,” Owen said.

“I broke my lap record from two years ago and it’s the first race win for Greg Murphy Racing. I’m happy with where it’s at.”

McIntyre eventually took third place ahead of V8 debutants Nick Percat and Tim Blanchard.

Blanchard was in line for fourth place but a clash with David Russell saw Percat sneak through to fourth while Blanchard copped a drive-through penalty, but still finished fifth.

Fellow stand-out debutant Ant Pedersen finished in sixth place, ahead of Rodney Jane, Geoff Emery, Marcus Zukanovic and Paul Fiore.

David Russell eventually finished down in 14th in the Team Jayco Falcon.

The Fujitsu V8 Series entrants have a rest day tomorrow before returning for their final race on Sunday morning.
