SUPPORTS: Harris three from three in Townsville

V8 Ute Racing Series

Ryal Harris has taken his second clean sweep of the season, winnings Races 2 and 3 on the Sunday at the Watpac Townsville 400.

The top five were reversed for the Race 2 start and Mick Sieders briefly led from first position on the grid in his #10 Sieders Truck Repairs Commodore.

However, Kim Jane made a good start from position four and outbraked a tentative Sieders at Turn 2 to take over top spot in the #27 Bob Jane Commodore.

Race 1 winner Harris (#58 Bushranger Falcon) soon moved to second position and passed Jane at Turn 2 on the second attempt on Lap 7.

He had made the same move a lap earlier but ran too deep and couldn’t hold the place.

Jane maintained second thereafter, despite being pressured all the way to the end by the rookie Sieders.

Craig Dontas (#45 GJ Gardner Commodore) finished seventh after a big rear lock-up and spin at Turn 2 while trying to find a way past fourth-placed Craig Woods (#64 Western Sydney Motorsport Falcon).

Race 3 was a procedural affair, Harris getting the start and pulling a gap as fellow front row starter Jane came under pressure from Dontas.

Harris went on to win by just over 6s in a race shortened to six laps due to tyre bundle work following an earlier Toyota 86 Series crash.

Jane saw off the early challenge to finish second, ahead of Dontas.

Harris had also won all three races in the non-points round at Phillip Island in April.

V8 Utes will also be at the next Supercars event, the Coates Hire Ipswich Super Sprint on July 28-30.

Race 4 of Aussie Racing Cars also saw an all-the-way winner, though Peter Carr was hounded all the way to the chequered flag by series leader Craig Woods.

Carr got the start from the inside of the front row, leading Woods away.

James Duckworth went with them early on but began to lose ground until the Safety Car was called on Lap 7 when Grant Thompson spun at Turn 6 and couldn’t get re-fired.

The race resumed just in time for a single racing lap to the chequered flag, with Carr holding out Woods as Jaie Robson jumped Duckworth at the restart to beat the defending series winner to third.

Reece Chapman gained a position to finish fifth with a brave, sideways run around the outside at Turn 1.

Carr won the round in his cameo appearance in the #61 Erina Fair Medical Centre entry.

Second overall for Woods extends his series lead by a single point over Duckworth, who was third overall.

Round 5 takes place at the Red Rooster Sydney Super Sprint on August 18-20.
