George Miedecke has secured two high-profile drives in Australia and New Zealand for the coming two months.
Miedecke will compete in the final two V8 SuperTourers rounds at Pukekohe and Ruapuna, with confirmation that he will replace Craig Baird at the United Video PSR team. Baird has been forced out of the seat due to racing commitments in Asia.
The Dunlop Series driver will also make a return to the V8 Utes Series, driving the Auto One guest car at Surfers Paradise.
“I didn’t really have much going on, but now I’ve almost got too much!” Miedecke told Speedcafe.com.
Miedecke will partner Chris Pither in the V8 SuperTourers and will get his first taste of the category’s control formula cars at Hampton Downs this Friday.
In the first two-driver V8 SuperTourers event at Taupo, Pither and Baird finished eighth and seventh in the two races respectively, and Miedecke is hoping he can help continue the team’s strong run.
“I’d like to think we can run in the top 10, but look at Bairdo, he’s a hell of a driver, so I can’t expect to go out there and match him immediately,” he said.
“Having said that, I’ve been lucky enough to do a fair bit of driving of late and I feel like I can go there with the expectation of a good result.”
Miedecke will also make his return to the V8 Utes class in two weeks time. The race will be the first time he has competed in the class in three years, and it will be his first-ever race in a Holden.
Miedecke enjoyed his first V8 Ute win at the Gold Coast street track and is looking to enjoy a competitive run.
“I got my first V8 Ute win there in 2007, so hopefully I’ll be able to revisit some of that success,” he said.
“I’ve done plenty of miles in a Ford, but none in a Holden. I’ve got a test at Wakefield Park later this week, so that will help get my head around it because I’ve heard the Holdens are very different to the Fords.
“In terms of expectations, we’ve seen how quick the guys at the front are going, and when you have guys like Cameron McConville and Nathan Pretty fighting inside the top five, you realise how competitive it is.
“I think if I’m in the top 10, then I’d feel like that was a win.”
The Armor All Gold Coast 600 will be held on October 19-21.
The International 500 at Pukekohe will be held on October 26-28.
